About Us
The Drawaqa Marine Conservation Trust is a Fiji-registered not-for-profit based on the beautiful Drawaqa Island, in the Yasawa Chain (Northwest Fiji).
Conservation work has been undertaken on Drawaqa for over a decade by the staff of Barefoot Manta Island Resort. The keystone achievement has been the establishment and management of a community-enforced no-fishing zone around the island. This has resulted in a significant improvement to the marine biodiversity in these protected areas, compared to the degradation seen elsewhere. As evidence of how healthy this reef ecosystem is, we have seen resilient responses to ocean warming events (rapid recovery from bleaching events) and multiple cyclones.
Building on the success of these intiatives, the Drawaqa Marine Conservation Trust was established in July 2022 to expand and accelerate this work. All money donated to the trust goes towards these projects.
